Someone is trying to tell you something. That’s the simple message the greets you at the splash page for Written On The City. And that’s the thing and the whole of the thing even if it’s not exactly the thing.
Posted by various users throughout the world are the photos that comprise Written On The City; photos of messages that people have left on walls, sidewalks, power boxes, and anywhere else their pen strayed. Each message by itself is nothing more than words thrown into the world by someone trying desperately “to tell you something”, a whisper. But added up all the messages together are a scream into the lives of quiet desperation and chains of moderation binding a world culture that is trying to claw it’s way into self-awareness.
The site, greater than the sum of its parts, brings the words of the world together so that no whisper goes unheard. Join in if you like. The world is listening. What do you have to say?
