On My Desk

On My Desk is a pretty fascinating glimpse into the studios of artists and designers from around the world. Most people never stop to think what the environment was like where a certain painting was created. The artist is important and so is the painting, but so is the space surrounding them both. Plus the voyeuristic part of me loves to see inside other people’s houses.

The Buried Life

What do you want to do before you die? That simple question inspired a group of guys to actually sit down and list 100 things that they wanted to do if they only had one day left to live. And this wouldn’t even be a story if that was all they did, but they didn’t just stop at making the list; they’re actually doing all 100 of them. This is the idea behind The Buried Life. And they’re filming the whole trip for posterity’s sake. This isn’t just a road trip, it’s a testing of the nature of humanity to accomplish the impossible. And surprisingly the impossible is losing. So, what do you want to do before you die?

I know that this is really going to blow your fragile, little minds, but because of the backlog of sites that I have to tell you about I’m going to give them all to you at once. So today is a giant list of all things great and beautiful in the world, each one a gem, and then tomorrow we’ll get back to our regular format. Sack up, bitches. Take it like a man.

TED

The very enviable Josh Spear reminded me via his site that the T.E.D. conference is going on. I pass on this reminder or perhaps discovery to those of you who don’t know what T.E.D. is. If I had the money to plop down and the invitation to attend there would be almost nothing greater in the world. To be surrounded by people who not only feel ideas and knowledge like I do, but have changed the world because of that, it would be like meeting the giants on whose shoulders we all stand. And in honor of them I’m going to spend the rest of my time making a small update to the site design. So rather than give you prose I’ll just provide pictures and links and you can discover things for yourself.

And don’t forget to watch some of the T.E.D. talks. They are well worth your time.
