Technology Explosion!

There’s not much time for a post today because I’m lazy and I waited until the last minute, but since today has seen two huge technological unveilings I felt that I had to comment. First is the Microsoft Surface which will ship sometime in Winter 2007. It’s basically a touch screen, but with full interactivity. Let me rephrase that: It’s basically badass. It’s nothing compared to my idea for an interface (that I won’t tell you about because someone would steal it), but it’s still pretty fuckin’ sweet.

And second is the one that I am still hunched over my computer giggling at, Google Maps: Streetview. For a select number of Metropolitan areas you can actually get a streetview image that is 360 degrees and so zoomable that you can read no parking signs on people’s garage doors. I coupled this with Craigslist and used it to get a better look at the building and neighborhood that prospective apartments are in. God, do I ever love Google. I might name my child Google. Middle name anyway.

Viva technologico.

Helio Ocean Commercial

Some of you might not have seen the new Helio commercial that is like Bjork robot magic so here it is in all its embedded glory. Get ready for a lot more embedded videos in today’s posts. And by a lot I mean two.

A Twin Thing x Wrigley’s

This is a really cute commercial from A Twin Thing for Wrigley’s Extra gum. Good thing the gum is sugarfree, because the commercial is cute enough that my teeth feel a little more rotten.

Tim Biskup

Juxtapoz has some great photos of the new solo show from artist Tim Biskup. His work has taken on a more intense subject matter and composition, and seriously blows my mind with how incredibly well done it is. Some next level shit from the Biskup here. His work makes it official now that the only reason I want a good paying job is to buy art. And to help kids. Did that make me sound like a nice person? Good.

Royal Art Lodge

A while ago a bunch of Canadians got together to make collages and work on paintings and things together. And their spirit of brotherhood was seen in their work and cured the ills of the world and it was good. They are The Royal Art Lodge.

Holy Arbitrary Milestones, Aquaman!!

This is our 360th post. You could read one post a day for a year, taking off for the major holidays of course. The shift from a personal blog to a “things I like to look at” blog is pretty apparent, but some of you have stuck with us even through all of that. And I give thanks for your obsessive compulsive disorder, because without all 12 of you I would just be talking to myself here. I think it’s time we got the word out about this place, and I’m going to start today. Let’s get a couple thousand more unique visitors a day without me having to put the words porn or anal anywhere in the post. That’s not to say that I won’t make posts that require the use of either or both words. I’m only a simple badass breakdancing robot after all. Thanks to all of you for sticking around.

Just for nostalgia’s sake let’s take a look back to the infancy of what has now become this great glorious hole in the interweb.

Behold: The First Posts.

And now we make party!

Flight of the Conchords

I told you there would be a lot of embedded video. Things to treat your eyes and make come back for more. We just get so lonely here. In the dark.

Enjoy this new show from HBO. I laughed and I danced, which is pretty much the best response I can expect from TV. The accents are a little annoying, but I’m a xenophobe.

101 Extraordinary Uses For Ordinary Things

No picture for this one, but no picture needed. Even the title pretty much explains it. I will never go without these items again. It’s like a MacGuyver survival guide from Martha Stewart.

Park Life

Since most of you aren’t in San Francisco or moving there you probably won’t care about Park Life. But I care and as soon as I hit the bay shores I’m gonna carry my ass down there. The fact that their gallery hosted an Ian Johnson show would be enough, but they also sell pretty much every thing that I’ve wanted to put in my house or on my body. Basically we should be best friends. We will be. And then comes the restraining order.

Thomas Allen

Thomas Allen cuts out the covers of old paperbacks and arranges them into new scenes creating a 3-dimensionality that the characters probably never got to have in their written form. But as original as the idea is, it’s the tension that Allen creates through his lighting and composition. Take away the clever pop-out trick and he’s still a helluva photographer. One of the best things I’ve seen all year.
