In Dutch design there is a well-renowned and innovative collective of designers called Droog. Recently one of their members unveiled a vase made entirely by bees. Right. Bees. All the studio did was build a space for the hive and then the bees stepped in a made honeycomb in exactly that shape. 40,000 bees working together to make a vase that in all likelihood wouldn’t hold water. The designer, Thomas Libertiny of Studio Libertiny, calls the process “slow prototyping.” It’s a statement on design not a consistent way to manufacture. Pretty fucking rad though.
