One of the most talked about shows of the year so far is going on right now, and it features Jesse Ledoux. Ledoux was once the art director of Sub Pop records but left the music biz to make his own way. And it’s a seriously fucking awesome way at that. Simple lines and color palettes lend a hand in making Ledoux’s work innocent and yet there is still a twisted child feeling to it, running through everything, giving people “deadlegs”. That shit hurts but you laugh about it because that kid was your friend. Sort of like that. I am making very little sense.
You can see Jesse’s work at Giant Robot Gallery in NYC along with the work of Keith Shore. Killer show.
And for a look at all the available work from the show check out the GRNY site.

I don’t think that Jason Limon’s portfolio is big enough. His work is great and I want more of it. Unless you were just trying to tease me like that, Jason. You sly dog, you. I can’t turn my back on you for a second.

Think if Ziggy was darker, 16th century Flemish, and the artwork much, much better. Then push that idea through a prism and take the purest violet spectrum of it. That’s about what Heiko Mueller’s artwork is like.

Juxtapoz has some photos up from the opening of the group show Happily Ever After at Suite 100 Gallery. This is one hell of a group show featuring the likes of Bwana Spoons, Deth P. Sun (shown), Ferris Plock, and Ryan Bubnis. Monica Choy curated so it’s no surprise that the show is killer.

Illustration styles vary with every artist, and even though there are some similarities each artist’s work ends up with its own voice if it’s any good. Source Creative, an English design firm, has several voices speaking loud and clear in a dazzling harmony. Multidisciplinary works that are still on the short side of perfect, but I can see that in a couple of years there won’t be a lot of competition left for this group.

Juxtapoz has a photo preview of all the shows that are opening soon at Jonathan Levine Gallery. I just have to say that Jonathan Levine Gallery is fucking ruling shit. And also, I told you Matt Haber was the king. Great shows.

There is a great article up on Design Observer by Michael Bierut, who is my hero. Seriously good stuff. He mentions his new book and I think it will be the first ever book about design that I buy with my own money. Working in a library has it advantages.

I knew from the image on his splash page (seen here) that I’d drool all over the work of Mike Bertino. And if I weren’t in a committed relationship I might have done more than drool on it. Damn man, that is some sweet illustratin’. Gives me art-wood.
