Kozyndan: Tales of the Bunnyfish Show

Marital artist duo Kozyndan have a show that just opened at Magic Pony Gallery called Tales of the Bunnyfish. Aside from being ridiculously cute Kozyndan are also incredible artists so I can’t imagine this show being anything but monstrously kickass. If you’re in the Canadian area (yes, anywhere near Canada) then you should be looking at this show. Start walking.

Tessar Lo

I’ve been feeling the grittier styles lately, probably as a result of all the cutesy, folky stuff that’s so popular right now. I like paintings that seem incomplete, but in a way that makes you think they’re just waiting to spring to life. I know, that’s a little esoteric, but it makes sense once you’ve seen the work of Tessar Lo. There’s a well developed and original style present, but more than that you can tell that there’s a lot of introspection and interplay of meanings in each piece. Like he’s trying to make Rorschach but his paintings come out instead. Someone needs to make this kid a star.

Mail Me Art

There’s been tons of press about Mail Me Art even though it’s only been going for 3 months now, and I figured you’d hear about it from the 800 other sites that mentioned it. Now, however, I am going to post about it for one reason only: they have a Zeptonn print as one of the prizes. Hell yes. Everyone should enter. And then give me that print when they win it. No, seriously.

Happy Go Skateboarding Day…You’re Under Arrest

There’s never been any love lost between cops and skaters, and as skaters we know we aren’t in for any kindness from the police. But this just goes too far. You don’t need to choke out a kid for skating just because you’ve been a cop for 10 years with no promotions or decent arrests or anything to show for it. Get over yourself, dude. I hope these kids fuck the city government up the ass for this shit.

Rendition

Scion Gallery has photos up from their show Rendition curated by Eyeone, and featuring works by Asylm, Cab, Jorger, Cache, Kozem, Klee, Luna, Mear, Panic, Passenger, Patrick Martinez, Skypager, Vyal, Yem. The Mear One pieces are giant and sweetastic. I still have some back pages from URB that he did. Some serious legends in this show.

Alyson Shotz

I am just enough of a nerd to think that My Living Room Rug In Hyperbolic Space by Alyson Shotz is rad to a factor of 10. See: me=nerd. That last sentence: also nerdy. Alyson’s other works are, in my opinion, not as cool, but are still cool and pretty to look at. They remind me of the time in high school when I went to the Museum of Arts and Sciences on mushrooms. Oh, to be young and fascinated with a prism that is shooting rainbows directly into your mind.

The Yok

Before the final incarnation of today’s streamlined Dangerous House I posted about an Australian illustrator/street artist called The Yok. Since that time The Yok has done lots of new and terribly interesting things in his work and has started making prize-winning appearances on Fecal Face. The Fecal informed me this morning that the ol’ Yokster has updated his site with even newer even more terribly interesting pieces, which I have seen and you should see. Go and see.

Face Your Pockets

Some of you might have seen some talk of the Face Your Pockets project over the past week or so. And talk there should be. This is a simple idea that creates an always original and always personal work of art. Just scan the contents of your pockets/purse and your face together. It’s your life in 2-D. It’s everyday as a mixed media collage. I literally only have keys, a knife and my wallet in my pockets so my collage would not only be boring but also extremely creepy. Or manly. I think it’s manly.

Tyler Stout

Tyler Stout created posters that are jagged and smooth simultaneously. Does that make sense? I doesn’t really need to because you can see for yourself what I mean. Menomena seem to really like him and I really like Menomena. Icing on the cake really. I was smitten before I even knew that. Sweetastic illustration, Tyler.

The Porch Show

As much as artists usually change the gallery space to be a home for their work during a show there is usually a limit to how far most of them will go. Building on the idea of community, Cinders Gallery and the artists that joined them for The Porch Show went several steps further and created a home for their work, literally. The porch, the place where families gathered to sit and wind down and listen to the crickets and share their stories, is a fundamental part of the underlying ideas of community. The Porch Show captures those ideas and creates a place for the artists to share their stories with each other and the gallery’s visitors. The works themselves are from a wide range of artists but somehow work together to create a nice personal universe. It makes me want to be barefoot and sitting on the old, worn, pollen covered wooden slats of my parent’s porch right after the hot Summer rain with a cold glass of sweet tea. A man can dream, can’t he?
