Kicks @ Subtext

Subtext in San Diego teamed up with a group of killer artists and DC Shoes to create an art show based around shoes as the canvas. The result is a set of one of a kind shoes that, even if you could afford them, you would never wear. There is a preview of the show on the Subtext site for the billions of people that don’t live near San Diego. Follow the link and then click on Preview at the bottom. Warning: the preview is a pdf. Just thought you might like to know.

Ryan Heshka

I wrote about Ryan Heshka a year or so ago, digging on his work. You should know: I still dig it. That classic style makes the Detective Comics kid in me freak out. I could pretty much guarantee that I would read any book that had a Ryan Heshka cover image. Mormons take note of that, I know you’ve been after me for a while. Heshka has a show up at Secret Headquarters in LA, so those of you in that general area need to get off your lazy asses and go check it out. Secret Headquarters is awesome anyway, and if you haven’t been there you probably have gonorrhea of the ass.

The Life Cycle of a Blog Post

This post, as soon as I click publish, gets scanned, picked over, and virtually raped by several different web services. WIRED has a nice info-graphic explaining each facet of the internet bad touch we all suffer from when we blog. I’m not egotistical enough to think that I necessarily garner this level of attention, but we all get a fair amount of it.

Periodic Table Printmaking Project

Nerds and graphic designers (redundant?) alike will enjoy this nice little project. 96 printmakers created 118 prints, each one representing an element on the periodic table of elements. Some really great work, and a nice way to get non-science buffs interested in one of the most important data tables in history.

The Nutcracker Suite

While I’ve got you reading things today I thought I might direct your eyes to an article written by Michael Lewis for Slate Magazine about getting a vasectomy. It’s not only funny, but I have to respect anyone that can get their testes tied and keep a light heart about it. Having someone else shave the stepchildren could be a nice change though. I never have the right angle for a thorough job. And now the whole internet knows that. Great.

The Diamond As Big As The Ritz

Somewhere in my journeyings to day I came a across an F. Scott Fitzgerald story that I’ve never read before. I was actually pretty surprised at how much fantasy is involved since most of Fitzgerald’s stories aren’t really fantasy even though they’re fiction. The story is great, but then the end seems a little too quick and preachy. It almost seems like he had to hurry and sew everything up, but included a moral so it wouldn’t all be pointless. Regardless, it’s a good read.

1) If you’re like me and you need to watch a few quick skate clips right before you start a session then this is your last chance to get some great Habitat Videos for your iPod. I left my little dude at home today, but once we’re reunited he’s gonna get a big meal of these choice clips. Via Thrasher.

2) Coudal Partners, who’ve quickly garnered a place in my heart for their sense of humor, have a nice collection of videos from Steve Delahoyde. The series is titled Regrets and features Boxes, Spoons, Kid, Racism, and Hobbies.

3) A couple of videos showcasing the Monome. Here’s Number 1 and Number 2.

Tiffany Bozic

Another of my all-time favorite artists, Tiffany Bozic, also an East Bay rez like myself, has just launched a brand new site to showcase her work, and keep you up to date on her goings on. The site is muted and stylish, which is a little contrast to her work which is pretty visually arresting in general. All in all I think the site is well done, but more than that I’m just stoked to have a place to check out all the new work (especially from the Academy of Sciences show that I never got to see). Go forth and view her work. And it is good.

Portishead - Third

Portishead has finally announced that they’ll be releasing a new album on April 14th. I’ve had to wait ten years for this. Ten Years! Don’t you ever do this to me again Portishead; it’s bad enough waiting for DJ Shadow albums. The band’s newest album is simply titled Third. You can read about it here. I’d like to add a further wagging finger for one U.S. tour date. C’mon Portishead, Coachella only? Harsh.
