Erika Somogyi

Maybe it’s because Spring is imminent, but lately nature imagery and bright colors are the two features that have been catching my eye. You might have noticed. Brooklynite Erika Somogyi’s work features both beautiful, bright colors, and is rife with nature imagery, so it was love at first site. Not to mention that I have a thing for watercolors. They just seem to carry so much more weight with fewer strokes. And goddamn does this girl know how to use them. Her paintings look like dreams of Ryan McGinley photos dipped in a liquid prism. These are the kinds of images that appear in my head when I listen to Animal Collective while riding my bike through the quiet streets of a Sunday morning sunrise. It’s nice to know there are still people out there who believe in magic.
