Ahren Hertel

Ahren Hertel shares some stylistic elements with Levon Jihanian. You see how I brought everything full circle today? We call that continuity. Words like that are what make me a writer. That, and believing my own bullshit. Hertel’s paintings are simple and quiet, with just enough symbolism to not overpower things. They seem like short stories to me rather than novels, which works well with his style. I’m surprised he uses oils since most artists have forsaken them for the ease of acrylics. The oils add luminosity to Hertel’s paintings though, and give them a soft quality that creates extra dimension with the subjects. Am I getting too technical? Tough shit. How’s that for simplicity?
