The One Day Poem Pavilion is probably the coolest sculpture/installation/anything that I’ve seen since I saw someone kick one of those street performers that pretend to be statues in the nards. The Pavilion, however, appeals to my sense of aesthetic beauty, rather than my America’s Funniest Home Videos sense. The Pavilion is designed so that as the sun moves during the day successive stanzas from a short poem are displayed by light shining through the sculpture. It sounds a lot more complex than it actually is. I also appreciate the juxtaposition between a poem asking the reader to fill each minute with joy, and that poem taking an entire day to be read. There is just cleverness all over this thing. I won’t even go into the type used, and its simple, utilitarian form. Just go watch the timelapse video. Your eyes will thank you.
