Daniel Dociu

Daniel Dociu
Somehow I came across two different mentions of Conceptual/Game artist Daniel Dociu this morning. It’s probably not a coincidence. I should warn you that this isn’t the usual genre of art that I cover; it’s pretty high on the nerd scale since it’s fantasy art for games, but I’m a nerd, and Dociu is a master of light and landscape. Spend five minutes on his portfolio site and you can see that. But I also really enjoyed an interview with him that I found at BLDBLOG discussing his take on architecture and game design. I don’t know how many of you have played Guild Wars, but these images might make you give it a shot. I’m not really a gamer, but I’ve messed around with a few that impressed me, and Guild Wars was one primarily because of the art. That’s really all it takes to sell me on something. Without giving too much away from the interview or spoiling the breathtaking surprises in his portfolio, I will just say that anyone looking for some new perspective on light, scale, and pure imagination should join the Daniel Dociu fanclub.

You can read the interview here and see his personal portfolio here. You won’t be disappointed with either.
