I know that I’m coming in on the tail of a lot of other sites posting about Joshua Gorchov, but so what. He’s got an amazing style that sits somewhere between Chagall and Charley Harper. Odd that those are both “Ch” names. Strange verbal coincidences aside, Gorchov’s paintings perform like illustrations but look like some kind of neo-Roman frieze style filtered through our post-modern mishmash. His colors are generally muted with splashes of brightness, and there’s a wonderful flattened perspective in most of the work. The titles of the works themselves are just another little bit of genius sprinkled on top of a big genius pie. I’m just a little disappointed that he lives so close and yet I’ve never seen his work in person. I think I’ll have to pick a print sometime, and close the gap a little more.
