B/D twisted my brain all up this morning by pointing me to the artwork of Jiha Moon. Moon’s work is a combination of beautiful, traditional Japanese ink painting and eye-popping acrylic colors, all rolled up into a big, abstract doober ready for smoking, with a dash of pop sprinkled on top. If that shit don’t get your eyeballs high then nothing will. Her colors are almost a sound. Open your eyes and listen, brothers and sisters.

Kent Williams is keeping hope alive for oil painters in my mind. Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of talented oil painters out there, but everyday I sweep past about a trillion people working in acrylics. Oils are a fading medium that need to make a serious comeback. Williams, with his Shiele-esque style, has enough talent to give them the much needed kick back into the spotlight. Good tone and luminosity, as well as some amazing compsitions, make Williams an ideal candidate for modern oil poster-kid. Here’s the thing though, oil painters…once you’ve gotten your rightful place as kings of the art world, remember to sell it to me for a low, low price since I was clearly so pivotal in your meteoric rise. That’s all I ask.

Brooklyn large format photo master Greg Miller shoots people and places that describe some sort of storied past. That’s really the best way I can think to describe it. Each frame looks to be the title shot for different stories pulled from the lives of everyday men and women. They’re like glimpses into the single universes that we all inhabit crashing together briefly. The interaction is key, if only for its ability to outline all the areas of non-interaction in our lives. The Story itself is separate but unified. Wow, I’m not even sure what I’m talking about anymore. Just go enjoy the pretty pictures.
Relying on this to entertain you while I get my holiday bonus check, and celebrate American style by overeating.

Holy crap is this guy ever an amazing designer. His non-genre specific movie posters (pictured) made me quit breathing for a second. And 4th dimensional type? Seriously, seriously incredible. Thurland is going into my “book of people I need to do a project with”. And by book I mean a sheet of very folded and worn paper that I keep in my wallet all the time.
You should really go outside more.

Hannah Stouffer has updated her site with all new line-based snake/naked woman/tiger-based goodness. That ought to tide you over till Monday. Try not to shred your retinas on those seriously intricate lines. I can’t even begin to have the focus it would require to make something like this. I am in awe of you, Hannah Stouffer. Does that make me aweful? I have always wondered about that.
