Oil painters take note, Seth Armstrong can teach you some mastery. Dude’s cityscapes have some of the best control of oil’s luminosity that I’ve ever seen, and he doesn’t have to go overboard with the Chiarascuro to make it so. To top it off, he takes subtle, humorous elements and drops them into his cities, such as his Superhero series. Because even the tight-wearing heroes have errands to run when they’re not saving your ass. It takes a big man to be so talented and still have some wry wit to toss around. It just so happens that today I’m wearing a hat; I take that hat off to you, Seth. Long may you reign.

Good looking out to Secret Still Life Partner for Life Megan, of the Arizona Megans, for hipping me to the work of Thea Wolfe. If Alex Gray could find his balls with both hands he would probably make something close to Wolfe’s marker magic. I mean, we could go on and on about how her art is like an acid trip and whatnot, but it’s only really like an acid trip that you’ve heard of, not one you’ve ever actually had. And what decent art isn’t that? The truth is that it’s great work that cock slaps you with bright imagery and sly metaphor, and leaves you wondering just when you lost the ability to believe that your action figures were real people who could do incredible things. Then you add in Wolfe’s drippy, acrylic portraits and shit becomes solid as a rock. Thea Wolfe: can’t stop, won’t stop.
