I have a soft spot for Georgia artists, because I know how sweating your ass off in the Summer can make it hard to be creative; more than a decade in the Peach State taught me that valuable lesson. Monica Cook has clearly overcome that hurdle to produce amazing work that talks about sex, beauty, food, and the weird perceptions that we have of them. At least that’s what it says to me. I love the way she handles light in her pieces, or more accurately, I love the way she handles everything in her pieces, but especially the lighting. If you’re in the Atlanta area, which I know some of you are, you can see Cook’s solo show for a few more days at Marcia Wood Gallery. I’d recommend getting your ass down there before all the Thanksgiving nonsense drives everything else from your mind. Your eyes will thank you.

Riffing on yesterday’s Eric Fortune post, I give you the work of Chelsea Greene Lewyta. She has that similar soft modern style, but with heavier line work and a little more meat on her compositions. What I really love though is that each of her illustrations is like the original kind of fairytale, the ones where there was terror and violence and just an all around good time; people got laid, people got killed, people got turned into ravens. I can really appreciate that kind of storytelling, in fact that is what I’m doing right now; see this is me appreciating it. Now you go appreciate it.

Artist Eric Fortune hangs out with that whole LeBasse Projects crew, so you know he’s talented. His work is kind of modern, but softer than you’d expect. His more recent work has a much more neutral palette, and I think that’s really working for him; gives a dark mood to characters that are perfect for it. If I wasn’t so full from a pre-Thanksgiving feast, believe me, I could go on and on about it. Instead I will take a nap.

Shifting focus, here’s some fine and dandy street art one time for your mind. Miso the artist, I like you as much as Miso the soup. Consider that my highest compliment.

Let’s keep the good design theme going with the work of Megan Cummins. All of her work is well thought out with the end user experience in mind, and I especially love her packaging design. You people and your good designs are making me itch to blow the dust of my wacom.

Some good, clean design for your Friday flavor. This should keep you classy well into your 5th drink after work.

I know that dude is blowing up on the internet recently, but I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that Christopher Delorenzo can do no wrong design-wise. I’m pretty sure that he and Frank Chimero need to form like Voltron and melt our brains out with their laser-sword of amazing illustration. In the meantime, Chris has me opening my sketchbook after a long hiatus, so now I owe him a serious favor. Need anybody killed, Chris?
