I’ve heard a few times recently that Oakland is San Francisco’s Williamsburg. The reference was clarified to me to mean that Oakland has house parties, lower rent, warehouse shows, and an assload of artists. Also, some of us have backyards. So yeah, I guess Oakland is San Francisco’s Williamsburg, which sounds like a backhanded compliment, but I still love living here. Another reason I can add to the list of reasons I stay here, is that artist Gina Tuzzi lives (and works) here. And that work is damn fine indeed. Her paintings are subtle, complex, and beautiful, and the paper beards she makes are fucking amazing. Another pro in the long list of pros for living in “San Francisco’s Williamsburg.” Better than living in “San Francisco’s Nutsack” AKA Daly City. Ya burnt!
