I’m pretty unpredictable. Sometimes. And what I mean by that is that I’m often not sure what my reaction to something is going to be. Take emails for example. I get some emails from people asking me to post their work or their show opening, and I’m generally pretty affable about it. Sometimes I don’t post it because I’m not a fan of the work. Sometimes I don’t post it because it’s already been mentioned on half a dozen websites that get 30 times the traffic. But sometimes I have the 15 year-old rebel reaction, where the first thing I think of is “Don’t tell me what to do.” Thankfully I’m a grown-ass man, so I’ve been overcoming that voice for years now. That’s all just pointless insight into my thought processes, which the internet makes too easy. I didn’t have any conundrums when I was asked by London Miles Gallery to post about their upcoming show. I can’t be there because it’s in England, but I like the artists involved, and so far England has only been good to me. Plus there’s the added bonus of Fernando Chimarelli being one of the three artists in the show… and hey wasn’t I just talking about him? And that wraps everything up nicely.
The show opens Friday, October 8 at London Miles Gallery, and features the work of Ekundayo, Morning Breath, and Fernando Chimarelli. So, if you’re in London, try and get down to the Gallery sometime between 7 and 11 on the 8th. You’ll dig all the work, I promise. And if you don’t, you can’t really do anything about it as I’m all the way over here in America. And that wraps me up nicely.

Oh yeah, I am enjoying this. Some tasty artworks from Brecht Vandenbroucke. Me and a friend just sat here saying his last name in as many accents and inflections as we could come up with in 15 minutes. Not even remotely stoned. Guess that means I’m just weird, and drugs were never to blame. Whaddya know.
Hoarding fruit for Winter.
Maybe it’s because it’s Friday and I need bright color and loud music, or maybe it’s because the sky is all gray and maudlin like the 13 year-old goth girl it is, but I’m gonna throw some color at you today. The first eye-burner is Brazilian painter Fernando Chamarelli, and he gets wild in his work. Chamarelli combines mythology from all over in a geometric puzzle of forms and textures, practically bouncing off the canvas with bright color. I really need to get some heavy duty sunglasses and get down to Brazil to check out all the killer artists at work. And while we’re planning fictional vacations, I might as well stop by the Amalfi Coast for a few weeks, then maybe on to Angkor Wat. I hear they have great churros there.

World Of Motion from Colin Hesterly on Vimeo.
I haven’t posted about any motion work in a while, and the Videos section usually takes care of that. But sometimes a motion designer comes along who’s work deserves its own spotlight. My friend Matt is one of those, and he’ll be showing up next week. Colin Hesterly is another, and he’s showing up right now. The guy has a great sense of camera control, his animation is on point, and he’s also a hell of an illustrator, which just feeds back into his overall motion style being amazing. But see for yourself, there’s a lot of videos to enjoy, and I’m sure you weren’t doing anything important anyway.
Hand-drawn type-o-phile (that’s a lot of dashes) Danielle Davis is getting my design dander up with her cleverness and simplicity. She covers the whole gamut of designer-y things, and does a fine job of them all. Maybe I should go for an MFA. No, I feel like that would get in the way of my beer making, or more importantly, my beer drinking. Prioritization is the key to a happy life.
Got that itis. Tonsillitis.
Very, very nice design work from NY/Barcelona design hero Mark Brooks. Why is he a hero? Because not many designers have the guts to start their own product line and keep up the design work at the same time. If ever there was a reason for meth addiction, it would be Mark Brooks’ work endeavors. I don’t understand how some people get it all done, I just like sleeping too much. And baths. I am basically a brown bear. This explains so much.
