The Complete Bedroom by IKEA

February 11th, 2008

The one time that I went to IKEA was so disorienting and frustrating that I made a vow to never return for the rest of my life. Putting together our purchases I cut my hands to shreds, pieces were missing, tempers were short. I have a vendetta against IKEA that is deep and full of hatred. However, that doesn’t stop me from enjoying the premise of their new website, The Complete Bedroom. It uses video beautifully with just enough interaction to keep me from getting completely bored in the first five minutes. Well played, IKEA, but you and I are still not friends.

Ulo

June 12th, 2007

I saw a few posts about this chair as I scoured the webs this morning, but it wasn’t until I saw the video of it that I went into jaw-dropped awe over it. Ian Walton has a good thing on his hands with the Ulo chair. You’ve got to see it in action. Go watch the video

Sotheby’s 20th Century Design Auction

June 6th, 2007

Holy crap. There’s more modern design furniture than you can shake a bentwood chair leg at in the Sotheby’s 20th Century Design Auction. You could stack 8 Frank Lloyd Wright houses on top of each other and furnish every one of them. And then you could call it a commentary on modern design and sell it for 3 times it’s actual value. You would do something like that, wouldn’t you? Ass.

If you’ve got an extra $50K or so sitting around you might want to peruse the catalog and buy yourself some nice tables. Or give it to me and I’ll go on Fear and Loathing style bender in Thailand wherein I will drink snakes blood and cage-fight spider monkeys with pieces of glass glued to my knuckles. And keep the leftover $48K to put in my IRA, because when I’m old I’ll be 10 times as crazy. My grandkids will call me switchblade.

Park Life

May 23rd, 2007

Since most of you aren’t in San Francisco or moving there you probably won’t care about Park Life. But I care and as soon as I hit the bay shores I’m gonna carry my ass down there. The fact that their gallery hosted an Ian Johnson show would be enough, but they also sell pretty much every thing that I’ve wanted to put in my house or on my body. Basically we should be best friends. We will be. And then comes the restraining order.

Confused Direction design furniture that makes my brain leak out of my ears a little bit. Kind of soothing really.

Innovative Furniture

May 4th, 2007

STL LoftStyle has a good post up about innovative furniture design. The hamster wheel thing is wicked awesome. Although I haven’t figured out how the bathroom is supposed to work without spilling water (and floaters) all over you when you rotate to another room. Makes it hard to cook dinner I’d think.

Cathrine Kullberg

March 23rd, 2007

Cathrine Kullberg is a Norwegian designer who just launched her own line of lamps. And they are fantastic. They’re warm and modern which is not an easy combination to pull off, and at the same time they are simple enough to be rustic. For her first product I think she definitely has a winner.
