Supertouch: Ed Templeton

November 14th, 2008

Ed Templeton
Dude’s over at Supertouch managed to get a nice interview with skateboarder/artist/hero Ed Templeton. Ed answers some insightful questions with equally insightful answers, and we all come away better people for it. Isn’t that the true meaning of Christmas? In other interview news, you can now find my piece on Tara McPherson in the current issue of Hi-Fructose Magazine. Get it from the website or your local, awesome news media outlet. The article is based on a phone interview that I did with Tara where I babbled questions at her randomly. She was a real trooper. Anyway, enjoy the Templeton interview. That’s how they should be done.

The Interview with Stephen Tompkins

November 10th, 2008

It’s been a minute since the last Secret Still interview, and lucky for me I don’t have to apologize. I answer to no one. Lucky for you the newest interview is a whopper from SoCal artist Stephen Tompkins (mentioned previously). Interviewing an artist who started out as a philosopher resulted in some wordy answers. Stephen suggested that maybe I should edit them down, but that’s one step away from censorship in my eyes, so everything is presented to you in its full-length glory. I was so interested in everything he said that I couldn’t figure out what to cut anyway. In the interest of full disclosure, I did fix some typos. And I added in links for those of you who might be philosophically challenged. Read the interview after the jump.

LCS Interviews Paul Davey

September 15th, 2008

Paul Davey
In an attempt to report things that don’t really require me to do any work, I’d like to let you know that LCS has a great interview with Jamaica/Miami illustrator Paul Davey. Dude’s got serious abilities going on. If I wasn’t such a lazy bastard I might tell you more. Sucks for you, bro.

The Interview with Dan Rule

July 14th, 2008

Dan Rule
PA artist Dan Rule (previously mentioned) took time to answer my mind numbing questions with interesting answers. He even tells me where I can get good noodles in Pennsylvania, which, believe me, will come in handy someday. He’ll probably already be long settled into his soon to be home of New Orleans, but when I sip some delicious noodle broth years from now, there will be an instantaneous connection between us and we’ll both smile. Trust me. I’m very wise. You can increase your Dan Rule wisdom after the jump.

The Interview with Rey Ortega: Limited Edition Retard Colorway

July 2nd, 2008

Rey Ortega
A day came last month when I asked Rey Ortega (previously mentioned) if he wanted to do an interview. He agreed, because I flashed him the bedroom eyes, and since those are pretty close to the serial killer eyes, it’s hard to say no. The next day I noticed that he had an interview up on Fecal Face. Bummer. Most of my interviews ask pretty much the same thing, so I had to find a way to not be entirely redundant. I came up with the following interview at 2 in the AM. Lucky for all of you Rey is busy and I am lazy, which means that it took a while for the interview to actually make it this far. Even less redundancy. Just a little warning, there isn’t much about art in this interview. Honestly, it’s better because of that. All the retardedness you can handle after the jump.

The Interview with Michael Page

May 21st, 2008

Michael Page
Bay Area artist Michael Page (mentioned previously) was kind enough to take time out from his busy schedule and do a quick interview with me. I wanted to know more about the man behind the monsters, because I think that getting to know the artist is usually the best insight into their work. So kick back with a cold one on this find Wednesday morning and enjoy a little peek into the life of Michael Page.

Speartalks: The Little Friends of Printmaking

May 5th, 2008

You all should know by now that I try to bring as much original content as possible. I figure you’re all adults and you can find what you need out there as easily as I can. I just like to talk about beautiful things here. I’m not saying this as an apology for what I’m about to do, but more as an explanation, because right now I’m going to tell you to go to another website for content. Oh yes. The crew at Josh Spear have posted a great interview with Milwaukee powerhouse duo The Little Friends of Printmaking, and you should all go read it. But then come back here. Promise me. I just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to point you in the direction of anything related to Little Friends since they’re my printmaking idols. If polygamy were legal I would try to marry into their little duprass. Instead I just buy everything of theirs I can get my hands on.

The Interview with Nathan Spoor

April 7th, 2008

Nathan Spoor

The artwork of Nathan Spoor reads like a dreamscape conceived by MC Escher and Dr. Seuss in an Ashram on Venus. I could read any of Philip K. Dick’s short stories and hold up his paintings as a backdrop to my imagination. The profusely talented LA artist let me ask him some questions, and responded with a goldmine of information. He also dropped some never before seen works on me. It’s that new new; ain’t even come out yet. Since I couldn’t hope to capture the grandeur of Nathan’s work at a measly 400 pixel width, clicking on the images will take you to the larger version. Click that shit like crazy. Now sit back and enjoy the world of Nathan Spoor from LA to Texas and In Between.

Interview with Kristina Collantes

March 31st, 2008

kcdrawing1

You have no idea how hard it was for me to not publish this interview a month ago. I told myself I had to wait until the new site was up, and I stayed strong. I was art-crushing from the very first time I saw Kristina Collantes‘ drawings, and I knew immediately that I wanted her to be the first interview for Secret Still. She was gracious enough to answer my questions eloquently and interestingly, not something that everyone can manage. Get to know a little about this So Cal artist after the jump. B/D interviews Erika Somogyi

March 27th, 2008

Beautiful Decay has a nice interview up with Erika Somogyi (mentioned previously). I was going to get a quick interview with her (and I may still), but B/D beat me to the punch. Oh well, I can’t even post the interviews I have in the can until the new site is launched. Maybe this weekend. Until then enjoy some professional journalism, not my rinky dink crap.
