Art I’m At

June 5th, 2008

Art Calendar
The first of the month art onslaught begins tonight and rolls through Saturday. I have to cut things short on Saturday so I can get some friends wasted, because they get married in three weeks. But I’ll be out on bikeback for a few shows in the next three days. As always the city by the bay has provided some top notch art for our viewing pleasure. My tentative itinerary is after the jump.

Other Arts You Can Buy

June 4th, 2008

Tessar Lo
Following in yesterdays vein of great art shows that want to sell you stuff, I present today two more fantastic shows that are all kinds of crazy packed with works to sell you. First off is The Tree Show IV at GRSF featuring…well, featuring more people than I can possibly name here. The work is so reasonably priced I can’t understand why there’s still so much of it to buy. How can that much tree themed artwork not sell? Trees are in, folks. You can show all your vegan, fixie ridin’ friends just how much you are behind the “green movement” with a small piece of fine art on your wall. Less work than dumpster diving for sure, and with way better profits.

Next up is the show Insider Trading at Project:Gallery in the City of Angels. This show features new works from Tessar Lo, Yoskay Yamamato, Rebecca Urias, Edwin Ushiro, Nate Frizzell, and Scott Belcastro. I probably don’t need to explain any further after mentioning a roster that heavy, but I will anyway. First, I’d like to say that every single piece that Tessar Lo (work pictured above) puts in a show is better than the last. I don’t think he even has an apex of talent. In two years I’m pretty sure he will be beyond anything that I can even imagine. The same goes without saying for the other artists in this show. Project:Gallery represents the best, and this show proves it hands down. Ruin your credit buy buying one of these paintings, and you will be the happiest bum on the streets.

Now Showing

Now Showing
COSH Gallery in London and Wear It With Pride have put together a great show titled Now Showing that opened last Thursday. The show features current artists and illustrators displaying their take on classic movie posters. The list of participants is top shelf and so too are their offerings. Thankfully we can all experience the genius at work because there’s now a Flickr gallery of photos from the show and all the prints available to buy. All of them are editions of 25 and will run you about $250. That’s not cheap, but for the quality of the print and the work it’s small price to pay. I’m drooling pretty hard over the Pietari Posti Metropolis poster (pictured above). And that piece is pretty representative of all the work in the show. Check them out and part with your sweet HEMs (Hard Earned Money).

Nathan Spoor & Dan May

June 2nd, 2008

Nathan Spoor
LA artist Nathan Spoor mentioned in my interview with him that he had an upcoming show with fellow badassian Dan May. Well the time of reckoning is upon us as their show, Kiss of Life opens this Saturday, June 7th, at Santa Monica’s Copro Nason Gallery. The reception goes from 8:00-11:30pm so if you’re in the area (meaning Southern California) you have at least one show that you can’t miss. These two dudes are bro-ing down in an art show that will probably change your life in ways that only large doses of illegal substances have before. Say hello to Nathan and Lola from me. I don’t know what Dan looks like, but if you see him give him a high five anyway.

Check out the preview of Nathan’s work for the show over here and Dan’s right here.

Art I’ve Been To

Late as usual, but still comin’ in hot. I’ve got a grip of new pictures of things I’m not cool enough for. This weeks photos feature works and crowds from the current shows at The Luggage Store, Fecal Face Dot Gallery, and Ratio 3. There would’ve been shots of White Walls/Shooting Gallery, but gimme a break, I got my wisdom teeth out last Wednesday. You’re lucky I could swallow enough Vicodin to get out on Friday. And beer, I washed it down with beer. Check all the hot, girl on girl action after the jump.

Art I’ve Been To

April 22nd, 2008

Another art weekend comes and goes, and I have another round of poorly shot photos for you to mock and judge. I made it to Nick Meyer’s show, but it was too cramped to get pictures, plus my hands were frozen, plus who takes photos of a photography show? I don’t like to be part of anything “meta”. Then we rode all the way across town to the Giant Robot opening, which was completely worth the leg cramp and the gay guy with the hairlip complimenting my ass. Finally, downhill and back across town to White Walls/Shooting Gallery. The turnout was surprisingly small for those shows. I blame the icy cold, razor sharp gusts of wind that were harassing people. Winds these days; think they’re such hot shit. I’m gonna start a sort of art weekend bike posse where we’ll ride around to all the shows, drink some beers, have some laughs. If that sounds like your sort of gig then drop me a line and I’ll add you to the mailing list. We’ll call ourselves The Regulators, and yes, that will be our theme song. More pictures after the jump.

Art I’m At

Art Calendar
The mid-month art show surge is here so once again I’ll be giving you a nice rundown of the Bay Area shows and events I’ll be staggering around to. If you’re gonna be in and around the Bay this weekend you should try and visit some of these shows, maybe say hi to certain skate-rat art-writers, maybe give him (me) some money or beer. If you don’t know what my handsome and charming visage looks like, you can check the About section linked over there to your left. See the art schedule after the jump.

Art I’ve Been To

April 4th, 2008

Art
This is pretty late in posting, but I’ve got a lot of pictures of various shows I went to a couple of weekends ago. Maybe longer than that. I could check, but I’m not all that into facts. Let’s just see some art, huh?

Art I’m At

April 3rd, 2008

It’s the first weekend of the month so there are countless art openings around the Bay Area. For those of you in my region, I thought I’d lay out the events I plan on attending. They’re what I like to call “cool” places to be. Because I am a “douchebag”. For those of you not in my region; you probably don’t give two shits about this, so go get yourselves some Frito’s brand corn chips or something. I’m secretly hoping that Frito’s will drop some cash my way for that mention. I’d sell out to those delicious bastards any day. See my art schedule after the jump.

Gallery 1988LA: TOYS!

April 2nd, 2008

1988 TOYS!
Keeping the hits coming back to back, Gallery 1988 in LA has just opened their new group show TOYS!. The show is full to bursting with a plethora (800 verbal on my SAT, bitches) of artists reimagining all the toys you know and love from hiding in your room when your parents were fighting. Not only that, but there are some life-sized hot wheels for you to drool over along with some mini, tricked out, V-Dub busses. I mean it when I say that this might be 1988’s best show ever. And yes, I am taking into account all three I Am 8-Bit shows. What would I have painted? I’m glad you asked. I would’ve done a piece featuring me and all my lego guys hanging out, but the Lego guys would be the size of adults, and we would be at a waterpark. That’s pretty much how I always saw them. Those dudes were my first posse.

You can view all the works for sale in the show over here, and some setup shots right here.
